My salads (especially my take to work salads) have evolved to be dressing-free simply because I got sick of ruining clothes with oil stains. I have discovered a salad without dressing can be finger food too which is more fun to eat. It is so simple to make too. Just toss in a whole carrot or two, cherry tomatoes, red peppers, grapes, berries, a slice of a cabbage or raddichio, and for spice I am into jalapenos, pickled and olive bar types of goodies. I like to add the earthy flavor of a mix of salad greens that really has a chance to come alive sans salad dressing. Then I often have a bag of raw walnuts at work as an omega-rich side. It really takes about one minute to toss this into a tupperware and off you go! Enjoy!
Love it! Simple is certainly lovely, isn’t it?
Not adding dressing is a great idea! If you do get an oil stain, however, Murphy’s oil soap (applied directly to the stain full strength before tossing into the washer) works great, even after a couple of washings!
Simple can be so much better in so many ways. Great tip on the Murphy’s oil soap!! I will give that a shot. Really sometimes dressing ruins the flavors of the salad. It is odd to hear me say that since I enjoy the right dressing at the right time so much, it is just that more often than not these days I’d rather just find the flavors of the red pepper on its own. The pepper is worth it, it is a beautiful and amazing thing.
I started eating 80% raw this week. (I’m already vegan.)
And I found the same thing! Especially (unfortunately) since 2 days this week I was forced to eat while working on my laptop.
I’m TOTALLY making your cream cheese this weekend!
Hi Elizabet,
Good for you! And I can’t take credit for the cream cheese that was from a friend, she and her partner are 100% raw and come up with all kinds of amazing foods. I encourage them to get published, I think they are still working on a farm in northern CA now and he’s re-inventing the food dehydrator. I have no idea what percent raw I am…I know the closer I am to 100 the better and lighter and more able/freer my body feels. That is a fun portfolio site you have!

I love the idea of dressing free salad. You can appreciate the various flavors in the salad so much more this way. Oil stains have been an issue for me too!
You know, this is one thing I haven’t gotten used to is dressing free salads.
I have been eating raw for about a year and a half, and the dressing hasn’t been an easy thing to give up.
Instead, I found some great tasting raw dressing recipes that I use all the time. I don’t feel bad about using dressing anymore:-)
